Osteopaths treat the mechanical problems of the body.

This may manifest as joint or soft-tissue pain (tendons, ligaments, discs, fascia) in a specific site or may be generalised tension creating  headaches and tight shoulders for example.

We treat all the joints and their supporting structures, including spinal problems , shoulder and pelvic girdle, and peripheral joints such as knees, elbows, feet and ankles, hands and wrists and hips.

An osteopath will always seek to identify the relationship between one area of strain in the body the the repercussions of that injury elsewhere in the patient's body.

We talk about treating 'the whole' of the patient because we diagnose and treat with an understanding of the inter-connectedness of all the structural components of the body.

We consider osteopathic medicine to be 'holistic' because it takes the understanding of the problem further by looking at 'what is going on in our patient's life that is predisposing him/her to this problem at this time . . . . .

Example: A patient comes in with a Tennis Elbow.

We then examine the patient's spine and find that the patient has a few

problems in the neck that need addressing and that in order to get the best

possible response from the elbow, we need to treat the neck as well.

We may also find out that the patient's work-station is poorly adjusted and

we give ergonomic advice to help that part of the problem.

The wonderful thing about seeing an osteopath is that patients get the time to be listened to.  Having this time to talk to our patients enables us to gain insights into what factors have conspired to create their problem.

Making an accurate clinical diagnosis and thorough analysis of each patient's condition is essential
